There's a lot going on with AORN Richmond. We're hoping to create a newsletter soon to help everyone stay up to date with what's going on with our local chapter. For now, please keep an eye out for event updates with Nursing Network.
THANK YOU to everyone who contributed to our donation drive for St. Mary's Hospital Pediatric Unit. We delivered stuffed animals, card games, and some Halloween toys to the unit this past Friday. They were so appreciative of our chapter's donations and we hope to help them out again in the future.
LAST CALL FOR GRANT APPLICATIONS: Are you interested in getting more involved with your local AORN chapter? Are you interested in attending the National AORN Conference & Expo? If so, the Richard B. Caspari Nursing Grant would be perfect! Submit a 300-word essay by November 1, 2024 and you will be entered for the chance to win a $1,000 grant to attend the National AORN Conference & Expo in Boston, MA April 5-8, 2025. We can't wait to see you there!!
In November, we will be creating shoe boxes for children around the world with Operation Christmas Child through Samaritan's Purse. Collection week is November 18-25 and there are various sites around the city to drop off your shoeboxes. Go to samaritanspurse.org/operation-christmas-child for more information.
November 16: Fall Workshop and VCORN Meeting in Forest, VA. There will be an educational workshop providing 4 CEUs on management of facial trauma, current concepts in regional anesthesia, Inspire procedure, and transcarotid artery revascularization (TCAR). Please see the attached flyer for more information about the workshop and for information about signing up for this event.
In December, we will be supporting two families with Safe Harbor. We will provide these families with clothing and Christmas gifts. A list of needed items will be provided later in November and there will be a Sign Up Genius for those interested in contributing. We hope to spread the holiday spirit by helping others in need and showing them some love:) Here's their website if you want more information about this organization: https://safeharborshelter.com/
We will continue to support the clothing ministry with Moments of Hope Outreach and have volunteer opportunities on Saturday November 2 and December 7. Saturday Servings occurs every Saturday, but AORN Richmond volunteers the first Saturday of every month from 11:30 - 1:30 at Light Community Church, 601 Azalea Ave. Richmond, VA 23227. Please consider coming out to volunteer or donating clothes, shoes, luggage, sleeping bags, or blankets.
